Dear Members of the School Community, It is an honour and a privilege to be the current principal of YCMHS, a high school full of tradition, spirit and pride. I graduated from this school in 1982, and YCMHS has always held a special place in my heart. The building is a gracious structure and a monument in our community. I am very proud of this school, but I am most proud of our students, parents, my teachers, vice-principals (Brian Doucette and Derek Lesser), my support staff, volunteers and all others who contribute to our success in a multitude of ways. Our school has undergone changes in the past few years, from cosmetic upgrades to changes in programs. We recently began the International Baccalaureate Programme and just had our first I.B. graduates in July of 2009. Looking ahead, we will be offering Cooperative Education to all of our students, and we are very excited about the prospects that this community-based program will offer students of all academic levels, regardless of their individual interests. It is always our goal to give all of our students real life opportunities, and Co-op. Ed. will most certainly provide a "hands-on" experience. Regardless of a student's chosen courses or specified program, I truly believe that everyone must do their individual best. Whatever you do, do it well! Give your best and expect the best in return. In life, we all have different roles to play, and success can be found in a variety of fields. Whether you choose university, community college, an apprenticeship program or another career path, if you are determined, you will make it happen. Effort and hard work are the secrets to success, and luck is relatively insignificant! A school (new or old) is only as good as the people who provide educational opportunities to students, and those who work in supportive roles. YCMHS has always offered a quality education, and we are committed to continuing to do the same. I will always enjoy giving back to the school that gave me so much! Thank you for your continued support, since "We couldn't do it without you!" Sincerely, Brent Jamieson, Principal |
